I don’t recall exactly what caught my attention – probably an ad on Facebook or some other social media feed. I try my best to ignore ads, but sometimes they catch your eye, or just overwhelm you with the same frickin’ ad and it’s hard to ignore. On this day, it occurred to me that it just might be possible that these tools could be used to create actual cinema.
At my job, I had been using Claude for some time – grudgingly at first – and by this point I was using it several hours a day, every day, and was increasingly amazed at what it was capable of. (Still very concerned about numerous aspects of it, of course.) So I pulled up my own personal Claude and told it:
You are the best author of science fiction. Take the following draft and write an amazing short story, with compelling characters and themes of growth, loss, and finding home again.
It titled the chat “Reckless girl finds home through loss” and spit out another version of the short story. Honestly, I didn’t even read through it. I just wanted to see what these tools could do. So I told it
Turn this into a fantastic screenplay
And Claude did. Again, I didn’t read through it carefully, but it certainly looked like Claude had done a decent job.
